Practical Course of  Business English

Contact hours: 36; contact lesson time:  (3 hours a week) at the end of the course students will have final test.

Tuition fee per hour 10 Lari.

PREREQUISITES: Students who have successfully followed Business English Pre-Intermediate or General English Intermediate courses.

Instructional format and Conduct                             

  1. The priority is given to the integration and development of four language skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking.
  2. Students will be expected to participate in discussions, role plays, work with peers to solve problems, and respond to readings and listening materials. Students will also use theoretical and empirical articles that provide support for the course topics, and give presentations in class on their topic-based projects. In addition to the reading materials on reserve and the required textbook, students will study new specific vocabulary, do exercises and tests on the course topics.
  3. Home study – (independent  work  individually on progress tests and writing assignments from work book)


Aim of the course

To introduce 14 important business topics.  
Within the given context active and passive vocabulary of B1 level will be practiced.
Four language skills will be developed in the following manner:

  1. Listening: understand the main points of clear standard speech on familiar matters regularly encountered in work or topics of personal or professional interest; understand extended speech and lectures and follow even complex lines of argument provided the topic is reasonably familiar.
  2. Speaking: interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible; take an active part in discussion in familiar contexts, accounting for and sustaining my views; present clear, detailed descriptions on a wide range of subjects related to the field of interest; explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options.
  3. Reading: understand texts that consist mainly of high frequency everyday or job-related language; Read articles and reports concerned with contemporary problems in which the writers adopt particular attitudes or viewpoints.
  4. Writing: write clear, detailed texts of presentations on a range of subjects related to the course topics; Write a report, passing on information or giving reasons in support of or against a particular point of view.


    Outcome of the course and competence


Upon completion of this course, students  are expected to master following transferrable skills:

Communication skills;
Creativity.
Interpretation and generalization.
Critical thinking;
Team building ;
Individual decision making.
Interpersonal skills: working with other students on a variety of tasks to produce outcomes.
Presentation skills i.e. presenting information for a wider audience.
